My Heavenly Question About Eternity

Simple question:

"If there was no promise of an afterlife. If there was no spending eternity with God / Jesus after you died. Would you still make the decision to become a believer and follow Christ?"

I'd love to hear your thoughts. I'll share mine in a week or so.

Yes. I started really living my life in obedience to Christ when I fell in love with Jesus, not just for the hope of eternity, but for the hope of a savior here, right now. I do love the hope of heaven, but the fact that I can face anything in this life on Earth with hope and a peace that it is all working for my good in itself is worth living for Christ. Just service alone and allowing God to give us love for others makes this life 100% better than living for ourselves.

I'd have to agree with Kaylyn. Prior to my salvation I was caught up in the drug and alcohol scene in college. Christ saved me from that as I strived to live for Him. Irregardless of eternity - not being obsessed with drugs and alcohol anymore is truly a gift in and of itself. Christ has already given me a sweet taste of victory and this life is so much better because of it.

I’m going to be brutally honest here and say no. The lure of eternal life is what brought me to Jesus. I know that I would be a completely different person knowing there was nothing after my life here on earth.

Now, eternal life is what brought me to Jesus… but the general idea of love and grace keeps me in His arms. The example that Jesus set here on earth is the way that we should all live, regardless of the outcome at our deaths.

Grace and Peace

Absolutely not. I agree with Paul: "If only for this life we have hope in Christ, we are to be pitied more than all men." 1 Cor. 15:19
