My Favorite Movies 2017

Each year I keep a running list of the movies I've watched from that particular year. As I watch more and more films, the list will grow. On average I see about 20 movies a year in the theater. I've also got three kids under the age of thirteen, so yeah we see a lot of kids flicks.

My 5-star ratings system is pretty straight forward...
***** I would own this movie
**** I would watch again
*** A good and enjoyable movie but not worth seeing again
** Waste of time
* I'm dumber for having watched it

So with that being said, here's my list for 2017:

1) Logan ****
2) Jumanji ****
3) Kong: Skull Island ****
4) Thor: Ragnarok ****
5) Get Out****
6) Their Finest ***
7) Star Wars: The Last Jedi ***
8) Dunkirk ***
9) Spiderman: Homecoming ***
10) Guardians of the Galaxy 2 ***
11) Split ***
12) Wonder Woman ***
13) The Lego Batman Movie ***
14) Captain Underpants ***
15) Despicable Me 3 **
16) Cars 3 **

I Matter To Him By Beth Gianopulos

“‘Is there anyone here who saw the Temple the way it used to be, all glorious? And what do you see now? Not much, right? “‘So get to work, Zerubbabel!’—God is speaking. “‘Get to work, Joshua son of Jehozadak—high priest!’ “‘Get to work, all you people!’—God is speaking. “‘Yes, get to work! For I am with you.’ The God-of-the-Angel-Armies is speaking! ‘Put into action the word I covenanted with you when you left Egypt. I’m living and breathing among you right now. Don’t be timid. Don’t hold back.’” Haggai 2:1-5 (MSG) Years ago, I felt a deep desire to be involved in short term missions.  Over the years, I have traveled on a number of mission trips, and I learn more about myself and God on every trip. However, not everyone understands my passion for short term missions.  Friends have even asked me, “Do you really think that you are making a difference?”  When I am asked that question, I start to doubt myself.   I wonder, does the work that I am doing matter?  Do I matter? After I returned fr…

Alluring, Dangerous Comparison by Beth Gianopulos

“No lusting after your neighbor’s house—or wife or servant or maid or ox or donkey. Don’t set your heart on anything that is your neighbor’s.” Exodus 20:17 MSG Before I knew it, I had wasted an hour scrolling through Facebook and Instagram. When I finally put away my phone to go to sleep, I did not feel peace and contentment. Instead my heart was churning. I was overcome with jealousy and self-deprecating thoughts. As I scrolled through my news feed, I saw pictures of a friend and her family on another vacation. Everyone looked so happy and relaxed. I couldn’t help but remember our most recent trip – that trip left me exhausted, frustrated, and sleep deprived. My family had spent many of our days bickering over where to eat, what to do, and who was bothering who in the car. I also saw a friend’s post about her beautiful, peaceful view where she drank her coffee each morning. I was filled with envy because I was lucky to even get a cup of coffee this morning. My view wasn’t of a beautiful f…
